Background Of Bahimmat Buzurg Program

Sardar Usman Buzdar, the Chief Minister of Punjab, launched the Bahimat Buzurg program on 20 November 2020. He inaugurated the program at 90-SQA and distributed ATM cards among women.  

The CM Punjab announced that a special Rs. 2 billion fund has been allocated to this program, which aims to assist deserving senior citizens, 65 years or older. Seniors will receive monthly stipends to alleviate their financial difficulties related to poverty. 

Elderly women were particularly included in this program to make them feel independent of financial constraints and provide them with basic financial assistance for their monthly bills. CM Buzdar emphasized that starting this initiative and seeing it through isn’t just an achievement but his responsibility. 

He also clarified that this program is part of the Punjab Ehsas program, under which many other programs also work to help the needy, poor, and deserving people of Pakistan. Currently, the program is under the Punjab Social Protection Authority. 

Who Is Ba-Himmat Buzurg Program For? 

The Ehsas Ba-Himmat Buzurg Program is designed to provide financial support to the elderly, particularly to Pakistani elderly women who are without pensions and face severe financial challenges. 

People in this stage of life struggle to meet their financial needs, especially in poor families with too many mouths to feed. Hence, through this program, the elderly women will have sufficient funds for their basic monthly needs and will be able to become financially independent to some extent. 

The program aims to alleviate these people’s financial constraints and provide them basic financial assistance. In case of the death of an elderly woman, any male member of the family who is above the age of 65 can also receive this assistance.
